Alain Khoueiry champions a shared vision connecting sport, international cooperation and opportunity
ALMATY, KAZAKHSTAN — 28 October 2026 — W1 and UNDSMA have announced their support for the development of W1 boat racing, an international sporting initiative that aims to bring athletes, communities and partners together through the excitement of water sports.
The initiative is led by Alain Khoueiry, President of W1 and Chairman of UNDSMA, who has presented Kazakhstan as the planned host of the inaugural W1 World Championship in August 2027.
The proposed championship in the Almaty region aims to showcase Kazakhstan as a destination for international sport and tourism, while creating opportunities for cooperation across the sporting, cultural and business communities.
“W1 is a vision for bringing people together through sport,” said Khoueiry. “With the support of UNDSMA, we want to create a platform that celebrates talent, encourages international friendship and inspires future generations.”
“As Chairman of UNDSMA and President of W1, I believe that sport has the power to open doors, connect cultures and give young people the confidence to pursue their ambitions. Kazakhstan is an ideal place to begin that journey and share its energy and hospitality with the world.”
The collaboration aims to support the promotion of W1 boat racing and encourage engagement with athletes, sporting organizations, sponsors, media and other partners. Further information about the championship, its program and participating partners will be announced as preparations progress.
